Hello! My name is Allison Chong, and I have been a teacher for 18 years now. In that span of time (and then some), I have had a wide range of experiences that I bring with me to the classroom. I have taught grades 2 through 8, planned and directed an after school program for children in kindergarten through 8th grade, and worked as a summer camp director, including here at Carden Conejo.
I grew up in the Newbury Park area where I went to a combination of both private and public schools. After high school, I went to the University of California, Santa Barbara to earn my Bachelors degree in Cultural Anthropology. For graduate work, I attended Pepperdine University where I earned my Masters degree in Education and my teaching credential.
I was 5 years old when I was diagnosed and treated for cancer. The operation and ensuing treatments left me with several scars and a bald head. When I was ready to go back to school after my surgery, my teachers ensured that I came back to a supportive environment where I was not teased by my classmates, but accepted. That left a lasting imprint on my heart, even at such a young age. I decided to go into teaching early on when I realized what a positive impact a teacher could have on a child. I also participate in different events that help raise money for cancer research and families that are affected by the disease, including the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Simi Valley and the the Face Off With Cancer charity that is based in Moorpark.
